Colin Kruger, a Managing Partner at Kestrel Housing LLC, brings a unique perspective to community building, having lived in three diverse countries and cultures. His passion, extensive network, and entrepreneurial drive are instrumental in his mission to uplift and provide opportunities to children from low-income families.
Colin’s real estate journey has been both dynamic and impactful. He began as an appraiser, preparing MAI reports on a range of properties, from office towers to regional malls and industrial parks. He then transitioned into acquisitions and portfolio management, where he successfully managed acquisitions and financings, including overseeing a mixed-use portfolio valued at over $2 billion.
His path took an entrepreneurial detour when he ventured into the world of internet startups, with his company coming close to acquisition by eBay. However, Colin’s heart remained in real estate, leading him back to the industry but in a different role – as a developer involved in multiple projects and property acquisitions.
In 2014, Colin embarked on a transformative journey by managing project-based Section 8 assets and tax credit conversions across the southern and midwestern United States. This experience eventually led to the founding of Kestrel Housing LLC Investors, where Colin’s focus shifted to new construction of workforce and affordable housing. Over the past five years, he has concentrated on ground-up construction, utilizing the low-income housing tax credit program and leading a sustainable single-family housing development company.
One of Colin’s pioneering initiatives involves intergenerational development projects, where he seeks innovative ways to build sustainable communities that serve the needs of multiple generations. His commitment to creating thriving, inclusive neighborhoods is at the forefront of his work at Kestrel, where he continues to make a meaningful difference in the world of real estate and community development.
